I just want to say amen to this. :) With what I'm going through again I know exactly where she is coming from. We didn't plan for this and there isn't anything we could have done to make it different, but God is in control and He knows and knew even when we didn't. Living in the day we're given and being the best we can be for Him is all we can really hope for.

Thank you for sharing your journey with us. I'm still praying.

I surf the web only once around this time of year, specifically to review old articles and comments about my dear brother, Fred Jr. To my surprise and gratitude, I ran across your blog! I know by now you are a year older, and happen to be the same age as my daughter, Hannah - age 11. She commented just this morning about her Uncle Fred and said, "I can hardly remember him, except I'll never forget his smile and his laugh!" Her observation says it all for me, as I was honored to grow up with him and enjoyed his laughter and innocence as a young man only 2 years apart in age, yet miles apart in humbleness and wisdom. He looked and lived life from a child's perspective, and came up with answers to his many challenges (at work and home) which were brilliant in their simplicity. One example: We were sitting in a traffic jam together on the Long Island Expressway. He was taking me and some of our friends to Jones beach. He turned and said, "There is absolutely no reason why we should be in a traffic jam if everyone would just drive at the same speed." I just stared at him. He said, "Really, it doesn't make any sense to be sitting here like this does it?" Of course, he was right but I never thought about it in the way he did - from a simple, uncluttered perspective!

Thank you so much for the opportunity to share one more golden nugget from my life with a beautiful brother. If you have brothers and/or sisters, keep them close to you and love them with all of your heart. I'm glad to see Mike and Fred above write to you and share the same thoughts and spirit that their father had with me.

Ryan... thank you for taking the time to devote this blog. I see that my middle brother Mike has posted already and his thoughts are very much in the spirit of my dad. Please let either of us know if you need assistance.

That's great that you included your sons in this process...it does seem like they learned a lot through the experience.

Thank you so much for sharing these tributes - and they definitely are incredible tributes. It is great that you are part of the cause to keep these victims memories alive.

I remember <a href="http://rantingsofheather.blogspot.com" rel="nofollow">Steven Hagis </a>

[...] Ryan [on Frederick Kuo, Jr.]: All of us were really surprised to have gotten an email [Mom’s note: it was actually a comment left on a previous post] from Mr. Kuo’s son, Michael. He shared a nice story with us about how he didn’t realize until after his father died and friends of his father shared their stories with everyone, just how much work his dad did and how important the work was. Michael never saw his dad that way because when he was with his dad, his dad was very much focused on him and whatever they were doing. Since then, Michael has learned how important it is to focus on what’s important. It’s a lesson he tries to keep in his life all the time. I know what Michael means because it’s much the same way with my own dad. He works for the fire department, which is really cool. But when he’s home, he spends time teaching me how to golf, helping me get better playing baseball and recently, he’s given me some tips on how to play football which will help at try-outs later this week. I know not many kids have dads who spend a lot of time with them, but I didn’t realize how important it was to have someone who could be like Mr. Kuo, Jr. was for Michael. Not only did he learn an important lesson, but sharing it with me allows me to learn too. Thanks, Michael! [...]
