Even though we don’t update here near as often as we should and would like to, just a quick note to let you know that we were notified the site would be down for several hours Friday, July 3rd. There’s every chance the site might not come back on line or that this blog will still be here.
No worries. If that happens, we’ve backed everything up and will restore it, however, it won’t be for a few weeks and possibly, depending on how big a problem we’re facing, may not even be restored until the fall.
Momster will handcode a page with more information if that happens.
Have a happy and safe Independence Day everyone!

Earthquakes
By: Z-Dude
California, Age 12
Once on earth lived Masashi, and Kishmoto. Masashi is loud, he changes his mood quickly, and is great friends with Kishmoto, even though Kishmoto is the complete opposite of Masashi.
Masashi, and Kishmoto had sent a horrible cheese monster Unuzi to the underworld where he stumbled on the huge red button.
“Sup,” Masashi said.
“Hey du-” A goldish brown dust came up under them.
“Whoa.”
“Hmm…”
“…Dude tha-”
“I know what your thinking.”He was thinking, Hmm that must be Unuzi.
“Okay lets go to the underworld.”Masashi sighed.
“Unu-” shouted Kishmoto.
“Whoa dude.” Masashi said looking at the mess of wires and red buttons as he pressed one.
BAM!!!
And that my friend is how the element of earthquakes came to be.

Z-dude here. I just got finished reading The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau … for the second time. It is an awesome book! I was looking at her website to find out about the sequel, The People of Sparks and that’s when I saw the information about the movie. Go check it out yourself.
Peace out.

During the weekend we (Ry-Guy, Momster, Dadzilla and me) took our new boat on the water.
It was pretty hard getting it in the water but went pretty well after that.
In the middle of that, our cousin and I made a song up for our new band: “Monkey Butt.” It was like All-Star from the movie, Shrek.
Shortly after that our boat broke down. When we got back home, Momster canceled the check for the boat “repairs.”

As much as the Pie Dudes have wanted to update their blog, life in general has prevented this from happening. As such, the start of the baseball training has already begun with practice sessions 2-3 times a week, each between 1 1/2 hours to 2+ hours. That’s a big chunk of time out of their busy-enough day. Add to that mix they learned that science projects are a requirement this year (in the past it’s been urged to participate but not necessarily required for grade) which they weren’t aware of until late last week. And then Ry-Guy surprised us all when he decided to bail on his first paintball session because he wasn’t feeling well.
Their team promises to hold a good year of playing ball. Several teammates went to the area All Stars and their coach is holding practices much earlier than we’ve experienced in the past with other teams, so the Pie Dudes are really excited as they gear up for a fun season.
On the science front, last year when they finished up working on their project (which resulted in their invitation to represent their schools at the city’s science fair after winning first place at both of their schools), they had mulled over their options for a project this year. They talked fervently about one that would disprove a former classmates claim that he suffered bone fractures and flesh penetration as the result of his brother’s inappropriate use of a paintball gun. And then they tuned into the Discover Channel’s “Mythbusters” show where gelatin molds were made to represent the same density of flesh and bone. Aha! Thus the idea was borne and their pie shaped minds started to plan out the project. Only it takes a lot of preparation and research and should have been started several months ago to work out all the kinks, not nearly enough time to do once we learned it was a requisite this year.
So, instead, they’ll be learning about osmosis using the Exploratorium’s Naked Egg experiment (which, as you avid readers might recall, was one we attempted earlier in the school year on our own, only I — the Momster — wasn’t able to locate the functional digital camera in time and life, again, got ahead of us). Stay tuned as they’ll be posting much of their project here for everyone to follow along and, who knows, maybe even learn too!
But for now, we’re contending with Ry-Guy’s misfortune. By Sunday evening he was running a 100+ temperature and complaining of a very sore throat. In the past I’ve suspected strep throat under those conditions (maybe because as a child, I often succumbed to the wretched virus) but that’s always proven to be wrong, citing allergies as the culprit that have led into bacterial infections. Low and behold when his temp soared up to 102.8 and his throat was still an angry red after the fever broke, I made an appointment to see our family practitioner.
Amazingly, it didn’t take the standard 2-3 days to grow a culture from the swab they took of his throat to learn that he does (or rather, did) have strep throat. Sure enough, I found an article on the web that confirmed this (found at FamilyDoctor.org). He was prescribed Zithromax along with the regimen of altering Ibuprofen with acetophenamine and already is doing better as he digs into the homework his teacher sent home with Z-dude and takes breaks watching Lord of the Rings which he amazed many with when he read–understood and enjoyed–one of the books earlier this school year. Of course, Momster knew that was right down his alley as he really enjoys those kinds of stories.
Maybe next week we can go enjoy a good old-fashioned game of paintball. After all, I’ve got a few scores to settle (evil laugh goes here). ‘Til then, let’s hope soon they’ll be able to get some much needed posting done. Leave your love!
